WebHereditary spherocytosis (HS) is a genetic disorder of the red blood cells, which results in the production of abnormally shaped red blood cells that are spherical instead of the normal disc shape. These spherocytes are less deformable and more prone to destruction, leading to anemia, jaundice, and an enlarged spleen. WebSpherocytes are small RBCs with a loss of central pallor produced by incomplete destruction of RBCs by macrophages ( Figure 2 ). Spherocytosis is very suggestive of IMHA. Figure 2.
